Rhonda
Canales has been an inspirational instructor of faux painting
techniques with Kelly S. King for over 4
years now. She currently teaches both
our 2-day Quick Start
and 5-day Mastering Wall
Finishes I faux painting classes at our
Seattle facility.
Ms. Canales began her decorative painting journey in 1987 by studying and
later perfecting the fine art of stenciling. Rhonda soon
desired to search out a more challenging avenue to express herself, which
led her to faux painting and decorative finishing.
After ten years of self-study and exploration of numerous faux painting
techniques, Canales took her training to the next degree, by seeking
out professional training, while starting her own faux painting
business, Design Illusions, Inc.
Rhonda's great passion for decorative painting soon took on a
whole new level of awareness once she attended
faux painting classes
taught by Kelly S. King.
"My journey began as a self-taught faux finishing hobbyist with a passion for art, a passion that
quickly turned into an obsession," Canales has proclaimed. "It is
hard to walk into any room and not see it in my mind's eye with a
gorgeous faux finish."
Canales is now one of the most sought-after faux finishing experts
in the Seattle area, and continues to successfully run her own
faux finish and decorative painting company, while
continuing to teach faux painting classes with
The Kelly S. King Academy of Faux Painting & Decorative Finishing, Inc. as a
lead instructor.
Some of Rhonda's many accomplishments in faux painting and
decorative finishing are: "Best of Show 2002" – Pierce County
Street of Dreams for The Ashcroft; Fauxcademy of
Decorative Finishing 2002 Award winner for Residential Stencil Project, and a
Gold Certificate for Best Residential Faux Finish. Canales'
work has graced the cover of the Seattle Times, was featured in the
Pacific Northwest Magazine, and has been mentioned in other various
art-related periodicals.
Rhonda currently lives in Tacoma, Washington with her husband, Ben of 18
years, and together they have two wonderful children, a daughter and son.
Ms. Canales graduated in 1987 with a BA in Psychology from Gonzaga
University in Spokane, Washington, where she received her Teaching
Certificate. Being a grade school teacher for 13 years and holding
a Master's Degree in Education and Technology have certainly given Rhonda
the skills necessary to motivate students at
The Kelly S. King Academy of Faux Painting & Decorative Finishing, Inc.,
while providing the guidance needed
to help them excel in the world of faux finishing and decorative
painting.
